Multiphase Flow Measurement Systems (MPFM)

Multiphase Flow Meters (MPFM) represent an advanced technology in the oil and gas industry, designed to simultaneously measure the flow of multiple fluids—such as oil, gas, and water—from a single pipeline without the need for phase separation. In the past, each phase had to be measured using a large and costly separator, which significantly increased both expenses and operational complexity. With the advent of multiphase systems, this process has become substantially simpler and more efficient.

These systems utilize a combination of flow meters, sensors, piping, controllers, safety devices, and advanced measurement techniques to accurately and continuously determine the flow rate of each phase in real time. The primary objective is to measure flow rates, phase fractions—such as Gas Volume Fraction (GVF) and Water Cut—and the physical properties of fluids without separating the phases.

Their main application is in oil and gas wells, where they enable engineers to precisely monitor well production, evaluate reservoir performance, and optimize production strategies. Beyond operational efficiency, this technology also contributes to reduced capital and operating costs, while supporting faster and more informed decision-making in oil and gas fields.
