The FMT-S turbine meters are robustand designed to perform on the highest level of accuracy. Unique for thesemeters is the fact they comply with all international standards and areapproved for custody transfer even with smallest possible installation length. The actual flow sensor, an exchangeable cartridge, has a build-in multi stageflow conditioner enabling the meter to be installed with limited (1 x DN)straight in- and outlet sections. All tested and proved according perturbationtest as per international standards.

The cartridge can be pre-calibrated, under both low and high pressureconditions, then exchanged on-site. The cartridge is supported in O-rings andisolated from the body, hence unaffected by any influences of the housing.

To reduce transportation cost, optimize the corrosion protection and improvesafety in handling, the FMT-S series of turbine meters are also available withlow weight aluminium meter bodies. As an example, the weight of a 12” (DN300) ANSI300FMT-S is less than 45 kg.

Principle

The operation of the FMT-S series ofturbine meter is based on the measurement of the velocity of gas. The flowinggas is accelerated and  conditioned by the integrated multi stage flowconditioner. The multi stage flow conditioner prepares the gas flow profile byremoving undesirable swirl and asymmetry before the gas flows over the freelyrotating turbine wheel.  The dynamic forces of the flowing gas cause therotor to rotate. The turbine wheel is mounted on the main shaft, withhigh-precision, low-friction ball bearings.

The turbine wheel has helical blades that have a known angle relative to thegas flow. The gas flow drives the turbine wheel at an angular velocity, whichis proportional with the gas velocity. Using a gearing mechanism, the rotatingturbine wheel drives the mechanical counter.

Applications

The unique FMT-S turbine meter is suitable forcustody transfer gas measurement of all non-corrosive gases such as naturalgas, propane, butane, air, nitrogen, hydrogen, etc. for low and high operatingpressures. Special constructions can be supplied for use under extremeconditions like high temperatures or corrosive gases.  Standard FMT-Sbodies up to 8” (DN 200 mm.) ANSI150 or PN10/PN16 come with threaded flanges.Larger Sizes or higher pressure ratings up to 24” ANSI600 are available insteel.

The FMT-S has a length of just 1 x DN. For flange ratings up to ANSI300 andPN40, the body is available in aluminium (steel on request). Due to theextremely low weight of these aluminium bodies, the meter can be transportedeasily and exchanged without special equipment.
