LM-3086 EPA3 - State of the Art Dust and Opacity Monitor

LM 3086 EPA3 offers thenew performance standard in opacity/dust monitoring. It fulfills the U.S EPA 40CFR Appendix B, PS1 requirements and is also approved by TÜV for German 13thBlmSchV and TA Luft.

Measuring principle:

The measuring system isbased on the single pass/dual path-architecture, illustrated by the enclosedpicture. The laser beam sent by the laser unit crosses the measuring sectiononly once and the receiver unit measures and evaluates the laser beam'sweakening caused by dust content. Additionally the laser unit transmits thereference signal around the stack via optical fibre to the receiver unit, 40times per second. This system improves the long-term accuracy of the analyserbecause in traditional analysers with a dual-pass design the retro-reflector isexcluded from the zero/span calibration. In the MIP analyser, the opticalreference path around the stack ensures that all affected surfaces are includedin the calibration. The monitor automatically corrects for dirt that canaccumulate on these surfaces.

Advantages of usingoptical reference path:

  • Dirt in optics is eliminated from themeasurement values, providing real long term accuracy and stability
  • Automatic calibration and zero 40 times persecond
  • Low need of maintenance

Advantages of using alaser light source:

  • Measuring path up to 50 meters without changinga single component in the system, due to a narrow and intense laser light beam.
  • Excellent beam collimation
  • Due to high intensity, measuring of higherconcentrations is possible
  • Long life span (more than 5 years) and astandard wave length together with the optical reference path guaranteelong-term accuracy and stability.
  • The analyser can be transferred to anotherlocation without factory calibration.

Features of the monitorunit:

  • Auto diagnostic mode is run at the power-up ofthe monitor and can be triggered manually at any time by the operator
  • Continuous system check program runs in thebackground alerting the operator of exceptions or out of specificationparameters
  • Comprehensive data storage for measured valuesand alarms
  • Multiple display alternatives for optical andmass readings
  • Flexible output options improve the connectivitywith larger control systems

Typical applications:

  • Power plants burning oil, coal or bio-fuel
  • Steel and iron furnaces
  • Cement plants
  • Petroleum industry
  • Other applications that require continuous, accurate and reliable measurements of dust emissions
